Overcoming Writer's Block - Using Tarot, Crystals & Energy Work

Let me paint the picture…

It was one of those sticky-brain mornings — you know the kind. I’d made a cup of tea, opened the laptop, cracked my knuckles dramatically like a Serious Writer™, and then… absolutely nothing. Blank screen. Blank brain. A low-level hum of “you’ve got nothing to say” buzzing around my head like an uninvited housefly.

So I did the only thing that ever really works when my creative spirit is in a sulk — I left the damn house.

I wandered down to the rocky pathway that traces the Indian Ocean here on Christmas Island. There’s something about that trail — the way the ocean crashes with zero apologies, the wind snatching your breath mid-thought — it cuts through the noise. I wasn’t looking for answers. I just needed out of my own head.

And wouldn’t you know it…
That’s when the clarity came.

That’s when I remembered:
Writer’s block isn’t just about your mind. It’s about your energy.

So today, I want to share what actually works for me when the words feel stuck — not from a “5 tips to be more productive” angle (yawn), but from a soulful, energetic, get-your-spirit-out-of-the-mud kind of place.

Let’s go.

✨ Tarot: Your Creative Oracle

Now, if you’ve been around me for five minutes, you know I’m slightly obsessed with tarot — not because I’m trying to predict lottery numbers or find out who’s texting my ex — but because it connects me back to my inner truth.

When I feel blocked, I grab a card — or open one of my Tarot Books and flip to a page — and ask:

“What energy wants to come through my writing today?”

It might be The High Priestess (hello, intuition), The Tower (time to shake things up), or something softer like The Empress (creativity and nurturing). Whatever shows up, I use it as a nudge, not a prescription. It gets me writing from a place that’s real, not rehearsed.

You don’t need to “get it right.”
You just need to listen.

✍️ Tarot as Writing Prompts

Once I’ve pulled a card, I go deeper. I use it as a writing prompt.

I once pulled The Hermit and ended up writing a whole blog post (yep, this one) about solitude, self-trust, and how silence after heartbreak becomes sacred.

That card wasn’t just a prompt — it was a doorway.
It cracked open something I didn’t even know was ready to be written.

So the next time you feel stuck, ask yourself:

  • What does this card stir in me?

  • What memory or truth wants to come through?

  • What have I been avoiding that’s actually begging to be spoken?

And then… write.
Messy. Raw. Whatever comes.
Let your soul speak first. You can tidy it up later.

💎 Crystals: Your Quiet Little Cheerleaders

Let’s talk about sparkly rocks, shall we?

Crystals aren’t just pretty. They’re grounding, steady, ancient as hell — and when I sit down to write, they’re right there beside me.

Here’s my line-up:

  • Citrine – for confidence and clarity. A golden reminder that I can do this.

  • Lapis Lazuli – for speaking truth. Especially helpful when I’m scared to.

  • Amethyst – for calming the chaos and reconnecting with higher guidance.

  • Carnelian – for when I need a creative kick up the backside.

I don’t build an altar or do a full moon ritual (unless I’m in the mood). I just hold them, tuck them nearby, or set one on my journal and let it work its quiet magic.

🌬️ Energy Clearing: Because Sometimes It’s Not About the Writing

You know what no one tells you?
Sometimes it’s not your story that’s stuck — it’s your energy.

You’ve got unprocessed emotions, someone else’s drama still swirling in your aura, or maybe just a massive to-do list screaming at you from the fridge.

Here’s how I clear it:

  • Burn incense, sage, or palo santo. Let the smoke carry away the gunk.

  • Move your body — dance, shake, walk, stretch.

  • Breathe (like, properly). Inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 6.

  • Say something out loud like: “I release what’s blocking me. I am clear and ready.”

Make space in your field and the words will follow. Trust me.

🕊️ Real Talk: It’s Okay to Pause

Now this part? It’s the permission slip.
If you’ve been trying to force your writing and it’s just not happening… maybe it’s time to stop forcing.

It’s okay to pause.

Not every season is a writing season.
Not every day is a “create content” kind of day.
Sometimes you just need to walk by the ocean, cry into your tea, or nap.

That’s not failure. That’s refilling the well.

But if the pause starts to feel like paralysis — like fear dressed up as “I’m just resting” — that’s when you gently coax yourself back.

One card.
One crystal.
One sentence.

That’s how it starts.

💫 Final Thoughts

That walk along the shoreline didn’t “fix” me. It reminded me.
That I’m a vessel. That creativity flows when I stop gripping so tightly.
That my voice matters — even when it trembles. Even when it’s quiet.

And so does yours.

So pull a card. Hold a stone. Clear your space.
Write what your soul wants to say — not what the algorithm wants to hear.

The block isn’t the end. It’s the doorway.
You just need the right key.

And if you want a gorgeous, supportive companion on this path, grab my book The Crystal Path: Healing Energies and Meditative Journeys. It’s filled with pages designed to guide you back to yourself — through clarity, ritual, and divine connection.
